Team Lady Mariposa caught the racing bug as an Oyster 625 through entering events from Oyster regattas to RORC offshore races, and over the course of three years the team felt their hunger for speed would be best channelled into a race boat. After selling the Oyster 625, efforts were ploughed into the regeneration of the team – and so Lady Mariposa Racing was born, with a Ker 46.
The Ker started its journey with McConaghy boats, with Lady Mariposa to be built at their facility in China. Over the course of 6 months the staff in China oversaw the formation of the hull and fitting of deck gear, whilst hall spars built the rig in Holland. Ancasta commissioned the boat at Hamble Yacht Services and with the electronics tuned by Diverse Yacht Services, we were good to go, with the addition of Elvstrom race sails of course!
The the 46 foot planing hull form, designed by the formidable Jason Ker, is an all carbon structure optimised for IRC and ORCi racing. It utilises similar build techniques to the construction and fit out of America's Cup boats, which allows for light weight, fast yacht racing.
