The First Race - Trofeo Carnaval

With the first two training weeks under our belt, the team braced themselves for the Trofeo Carnaval, hosted by the Real Club Nautico Palma over the 6th and 7th of February with a fleet of 30 boats. Saturday began slowly with light winds delaying the start time. By 2pm the wind filled in and Lady Mariposa R flew across the race course taking line with honours in her first race. The team lead for the duration of the race around the windward-leeward course. Sunday was a very different story with dark clouds looming over head in the marina first thing, with a swell building outside by mid morning. The team assembled, prepared with the offshore main to see some strong conditions. A coastal race got underway but was soon abandoned on the second leg as a consistent 35 knots blew down the course, with gusts touching in to the 40s. Although it was a shame not to finish the race, the team were the last to drop sails and head in, showing their determination and commitment. That's a wrap on our last winter training here in Palma, before we head back to the chilly UK for the season to start in earnest.
