IRC 0 1st @ Cowes Week
As the highlight of the first year program, the team were hungry for a result at Cowes Week.
Competition was high, with the likes of Piet Vroon’s Ker 51 Tonnerre, TP 52 Conviction and Ker 46 Shakti to keep everyone on their toes. The team were focused and knew that races over 7 days was going to be a marathon not a sprint
Hot sunshine and a moderate breeze was the theme for the week, spoiling competitors with Champagne sailing nearly every day. However, the regatta did not start the way the team had hoped with a collision in Race 1 at a bottom mark, clipping the bow sprit and breaking it. Marine Pro worked through the night to rebuild the bow sprit ready for Race 2.
The team knew that there were no room for mistakes and they were going to have to sail a flawless week to be in contention of the podium. The races went from strength to strength and LMR sailed a consistent series, with four 1st's and two 2nd's securing them the overall win in IRC 0.
The week hosted all the usual excitement of Cowes Week, with busy start and finish lines, quick tacking battles up the shore, and the challenge of navigating hundreds of boats heading straight towards us!
Cowes Week wraps up the first inshore racing season aboard the almighty Ker 46 and what a way to end it. It was a long and challenging regatta, (everyone would have appreciated a lay day!), but the team performed at their best, keeping the focus throughout the week and bouncing back after the set back on Day 1.
Now it is time to reflect on the year’s progress and concentrate on how the team can keep developing. Stay tuned to hear about the boat's future plans.
Next up is the RORC Cherbourg Race on the 2nd September.
Thanks for all your support,
